About Me

My name is Rebecca James and I am a UKCP accredited Systemic Psychotherapist. The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is the leading organisation for regulated psychotherapists in the UK. This ensures the therapist conducts themselves and their practice in an ethical and safe manner. I also hold registration with the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) which is the only professional body for the specialist systemic psychotherapy training, providing families and individuals with relational therapy.

I began training as a Psychotherapist out of a desire to help others who are struggling or feeling alone. We live in a world of constant communication, it can be hard when we stop and are left with overwhelming thoughts and intense feelings of sadness.

As a society, we are beginning to recognise the importance of mental health care. Yet, seeking support can still bring up feelings of shame or judgement.

I began my work with children and families by receiving a BA in Educational Studies from the University of York. After this, I qualified as a primary school teacher, gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the University of Worcester.

Throughout my schooling years and further education, I worked as a nanny, which nurtured my growing interest in the demands of parenting. Working so closely with children and families in these settings, I decided to delve further into a psychology career, where I earned a Postgraduate Certificate in the Therapeutic Arts and another in Parent-Child Relationship Skills at The Institute of Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE).

All the above skills and education led me to my final career as a Systemic Psychotherapist where the first two years I trained at the Tavistock and NHS Portman Clinic and the final qualifying years at the University of Leeds where I received my Masters (MSc) in Systemic Psychotherapy.

Throughout my training in systemic therapy, I have learned to see individuals in the context of their relationships with others. This allows me to engage with individuals, adult relationships, families, and organisations - essentially any entity that forms a 'system'. In therapy, I will help you express and explore challenging thoughts and emotions in a safe and secure environment.

Whilst I am trained to work with a wide range of dilemmas, I have gained particular therapeutic skills in my ongoing work within bereavement services, youth centres and CAMHS services.
